To get to the heart of the matter (always the goal of this blog), Doc’s Records on 2628 Weisenberger St is easily the best record store in Fort Worth, Texas. I’m sorry to write this, as I wish I could say that Panther City Vinyl, my neighborhood store is the best. But Panther City is a small store that just opened a couple years ago while Doc’s is an established shop that fairly recently relocated to a huge space in the Foundry District. I originally sought them out because I wanted a new turntable and speakers and whenever I asked anybody around town to recommend a stereo equipment store they said “try Doc’s”. I was disappointed at the stereo equipment. They just sell random stuff on consignment, most of it low end junk. They also have a lot of vintage clothing, magazines, posters, and kitsch, also sold on consignment in little boutiques within the store.
The best reason to go is the large selection of new and used records. They have a nice selection of all genres.
I picked up a great Emmylou Harris album for $1.98! And six bucks for Quincy Jones’ amazing “Gula Matari”.
They also buy records. I had an original edition “Lord of the Rings” picture disc that I wanted to get rid of for a while because I never listened to it. It looks nice, but the music is truly horrible. If you want to sell records to a record store you have to be prepared to sell for way less than what you might get if you sold it yourself on ebay or Discogs.com. This is how record stores make money! I was going to just give my pic disc to Goodwill because Panther City Vinyl would only offer me $3 bucks for it, and Half Price Books $5. No way! The record easily sells for between $13 and $50 online. Docs offered $10 cash or $15 store credit. I took the latter – they have loads of great records!
