I live in the Fairmount neighborhood. It has tons of pretty good bars, coffee shops, and restaurants, but few places were you can get a standard American breakfast. There’s the Paris Coffee Shop, but they’re closed on Sunday (!). Luckily, the Vickery Cafe is nearby at 4120 W Vickery Blvd. I could describe the place but… just look at this picture:
This is about the only thing you need to know about the Vickery Cafe. It’s a diner. If you can’t read the gentleman’s shirt, it says “Only the best grease used on our spoons”. I enjoyed the breakfast quesadilla. It was too salty, but that describes nearly every restaurant in town. My wife was happy with the Migas breakfast. I came back for the meatloaf. Way too salty! The coffee kept coming. As with most diners (including Paris Coffee Shop) the coffee is weak but not bad tasting and pretty smooth. Just keep drinking it! Hey, all of my restaurant reviews boil down to: would I go back to the place or not? The answer for the Vickery Cafe is a resounding yes. And the staff is very friendly. I shall return – but next time I’ll ask them to go easy on the salt.
